Physicians Across Continents (PAC) is an international humanitarian medical organization rendering quality health care services to the patients and peoples inflicted with disasters and crises regardless of their race, religion or country. A group of physicians, pharmacists, nurses, administrators and pressmen working in the field of health established 'Physicians Across Continents (PAC)" at the beginning of the year 1424H-2003. After few years, PAC joined the Muslim World League (MWL) to operate in the field of medical charity in some poverty-stricken countries.
Based in Riyadh, the capital city of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, PAC carries out its activity on basis of humanitarian principles related to the code of medical ethics in compliance with the mission adopted by PAC since its incorporation. According to our mission, "We are an international medical charity seeking to assist and cure patients all over the world regardless of race, color or country by supporting the individual field medical activity and contributing to the training of medical personnel and enlightening all categories of society.
Two decades of civil war has seriously compromised the infrastructure and skilled workforce in humanitarian and development sectors. Health is a basic human right and Somali people endeavor to lead a long and healthy life.
The reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health indicators of Somalia are among one of the lowest in the world. The shortage of health human resource led to high rates of maternal and newborn morbidity and mortality. Approximately, 5%-15% of all pregnant women develop potentially life-threatening complications that call for Cesarean Sections by a skilled health professional. The main causes of maternal death and disability in Somalia are complications arising from hemorrhage, eclampsia/hypertension, sepsis and obstructed labor. Building capacity of the needed skilled health workforce is an important component of the recently developed Health Sector Strategic Plan of Ministry of Health of Somalia.
The Ministry of Health of Somalia in collaboration with UNICEF, UNFPA, WHO and partners has developed an Essential Package of Health Services (EPHS). The Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care (CEmONC) Component of the package describes standards to be implemented in all hospitals providing these services across the country.
